I returned to ceramics a few years ago after many years as a photographer. I still do photography, but at the moment I'm enjoying working with clay. I create sculptural forms using slab construction technique. My series, Curves & Crisp Edges, is inspired by Modernist sculpture, in which form is an exploration of line, shape and colour, with emphasis placed on the material used and construction technique. The glazes and finishes on the pieces are secondary to the form, the glaze enhances the lines and shapes of the sculptures. I sometimes use Terra Sigillata, a method of finishing ceramics that dates back two thousand years on my sculptures, liking the satiny finish that it produces.
